SADE 136 - DIE ENTWEIHUNG - The Hallucinations (Although I’m a big fan of black metal for years and years, I feel that this genre often fall in the “meh” category… Lack of creativity or of distinction, genericness, lack of KVLT, name all the feeling that you feel when you ear a very bad black metal act and with times, it seems that there are more and more legions of VNKVLT black metal… But here’s something KVLT. Die Entweihung is coming from what the belivers calls the Holy Lands and deliver one dose of very EPIC BLACK METAL. No other word than epic describes this vast dose of weird synth experiments, high screaming guitars, agonizing beats and unholy vocals… Think late-70’s synth music under the influence of Bathory and intoxicants… KVLT fans of vast epic black metal need this… The rest can listen to all the other suburban teenager in his bedroom that pollutes the black metal scene…)

SADE 140 - GMACKRR - Meditative Part 6-13 (Gmackrr is without any doubt one of Montréal’s finest import/export of the last years. She is one of the best artist to work with and she is producing one hell of fine experiments… On this second release on Brise-Cul, she follow the path of this first release, 2008’s Meditative Part 1-5. SADE 134 - CHANSONS D’AMOUR - L’Album (Chansons D’Amour is one of the best match-up in recent years to clean Montreal’s lousy earwax. On this first album, Chansons d’Amour is the combo of 2 regular Brise-Cul recording artists, Cabral Jacobs who delivers his ultra-fine free jazz saxophones and Grkzgl who provides his powerful discharge of harsh noise. The result is a very very harsh cocophonous dialogue between the two belligerents. The duo have since been expanded to a trio with John Brennan on drums to please more your ears, but this recording is a very good document of the primal scream of this very good new Montreal act. One of the harshest release that ever been done on Brise-Cul since the launching of the label in 2001…)

SADE 137 - LES GUSTAVO KUERTEN - Massage Automate II (You know, when you think your scene is a borign thing with only a circle of old farts, there’s new spirited people that came to reminds you how cool it is to be involved in a local scene. Les Gustavo Kuerten are like this, very enthousiast and supportive people that will make you smile. I love these guys since they are very open to weird stuff, like when they showed up on one of my Organic Noise Afternoons as a full psych band in the middle of a park on a sunny saturday afternoon to play one of the best rock set in the middle of families, children and poeple walking with their dogs… This is a short psych recording that is a very good introduction to this punch in the face choas of these very cool dudes from Montréal…

SADE 132 – Ayal Senior – History Deletes Itself (Toronto’s prolific guitar player notably known for his intense jam collaboration with the late John Fahey released a couple of years ago on Important under the 3 Days Band moniker hits the Brise-Cul camp with a very soulful releases. From long guitar drones to kraut-rock like jams and long bluesy jams, Ayal Senior bring you in a journey of dense creativity. —-  Ayal Senior est un guitariste Toronto très prolifique notamment connu pour ses enregistrements en compagnie du légendaire guitariste John Fahey lancé sous le nom 3 Days Band il y a quelques années sous l’étiquette Important. This is one of my favourite release that was made in the last year and the ephemere nature of it made me ask legendary Montreal axeman Chris Burns for a re-release. This insane release consist of 2 long tracks of a very telented guitarist exploring many sounds coming form his guitar behind a big wall of feedback. Unusual manipualtion, cavernous sounds and direct atmosphere make this release unique in its genre. We discuss about this release for years, so now that it’s out, jump on this KVLT recording…

I’m am very proud to finally announce the release of the biggest puzzle on Brise-Cul after 2 years of waiting. This 2CDR set contain a full CDR of Disguises demolition derby noise rock at its cavernous best and a CDR with 4 members playing their wack solo project. Man Made Hill play weird tape manipualtions and strange percussions while 13 Moons freeze you up with his full bong of distortion and Roman Pilates rolls a big discharge of killer noise. SADE 118 - chefkirk - Typical Locations - CDR (This is the third release in 5 years on Brise-Cul for this prolific minimal electronics artist known as chefkirk. Still true to his typical sound, the now living in Portland artist known as chefkik delivers here a very strange minimal electronics release. This release is like trying to find the nirvana in the reception and emission of data, in the impersonnal feelings of the informational society… But it is more than this, it’s a chefkirk release with typical trademark minimal use of comon electronics in such an efficient way that you stay impressed about the banal use of very common devices. And that’s what always impressed me, chefkirk don’t want to impress you with all the gears he have,he barely used 3-4 pedals, the one you all use, but there is no way you can use it in a better way, I’m pretty sure…)

SADE 112 - THAMES - XIII - CDR (The Moskos/Hargreaves duo is for sure one of Montréal’s best underground export. We discussed about it for a while and here it is, after a solo release by each member of the duo, Brise-Cul is proud to present you Thames XIII, the final installment of a long long advrenture that started with a boxed set of 5 CDR and that also feature many live releases and some mix tapes and crazy jams. What a great way to close this with a monumental jam of analogue instrumentation with the perfection and mastery that the duo have proven in the past (yeah just writing this, how many killer memories of insane shows come to mind). The band’s not dead, it’s just that unlike Danzig they decided to stop somewhere… “I was born to bring trouble wherever i’m at, with the number ‘13′ tattooed on my neck. That ink starts to itch, black gon’ turn to red…”)

I bet because it’s one thing noibody can forget… I think very few people in the noise scene deserve the term unique than this criminally underrated noise king. On this piece of plastic, you can hear a good half hour of Providence’s best electronician with a brand new console he buiuld out of switches, knobs, metal, junk… You know… What made me laugh last time I stayed at Dan’s place it was that he washappy to mention that he lives close to a Radio Shack. That’s seriously a good neighbour to have when your Diagram A. Well, do I have to mention that this is a kind of essential release?)

SADE 094 - MORNE/NIGHT -split CDR - (For thos who like their black metal cold, I bet you haven’t heard a lot of black metal from colder grounds that reflectsits origins. These two black metal acts are coming from the northern inhabited part of Québec and know all about what is cold and grimm, more than you are nearly close to expect. Morne is from the entry of the majestif fjord of Saguenay, the same land where I am born and delivers a pure aural chaotic abrasion of metal with a great dose of emotion and evilness. Night is from Sept-îles and is a member of the band Mortuas! Sept-îles is one city in the north of Quebec where you are kind of obligated to have a peaceful relation with the nature and where you have to love extreme stuff to entertain you during the long cold winter. This one man act is playing black metal in the cold majestic way only tr00 metalers from the North can play! You’ve been warned, this is for the die hard north worshipers and evil blasphematers!!!)

On this recording from 2003, Zarach ‘Baal’ Tharagh delivers a freaking insane slab of insanity that only him ca give us. Razor sharp guitars dirty beats and asylum escaped vocals will scare the shit out of you… Known for their tape on the amazing Husk Records, Dead Mountain is more into the old school traditional necro side of the metal. SADE 103 – KNURL – Turbinoluminescence – CDR (Who need introduction to the greatest Canadian noise artist. On this second release for Brise-Cul Records, the king of metal noise seems to push the limits a little more off the ground. If the maestro of metal still work his pieces of metal with a surgeon handwork like on most of his release, the level of harshness and intensity haven’t been at such a level. I think last year’s Hyperplasia was a demonstration of that metal virtuoso attitude, this one brings the level of noise at a point that only a great artist like Alan Bloor can handle with a musical way. Harsh and precise like we all love our Knurl!

SADE 101 - CABRAL JACOBS - WHO ARE YOU? - CDR - (Here it is finally out, you heard me telling this release is a masterpiece, make your mind now. Cabral Jacobs is member of Dead Bush and The Nimalan Yoganathan Jazz Ensemble and he is a common contributer of my psych band Tandoori Dream. He usually sells killer self-made releases at shows, everyone of each that are gems. He even made a recording where he covers only Minutemen songs. I think most of his recordings are pure gems and it needed to be more accessible through Brise-Cul. This release is maybe the most intense way to penetrate somebody’s soul. I know it’s cliché to say that but it’s far superior that you think, this release is straight up insane freak jazz compositions where Cabral handles all the drums, electronics, saxophones, bass… The beauty of the thing is that it’s not a big mash up of things thrown in one thing, this is very emotives complex pieces with a lot of atmosphere and maturity. I think there no way if you are into underground jazz or psych you should miss this… This is I think one of the most personnal recording you will never hear in your entiere life…)

SADE 097 - CONCRETE VIOLIN - DISPARAGED - CDR - (Last time I did a Concrete Violin release on Brise-Cul it was in 2004 and the catalogue number was SADE 011, just to tell you how it was time for a new Concrete Violin release! The Texas is back here with another huge slab of heavy concrete noise without compromise. If you know the project you might know what to expect : uncompromised live noise with few changes, sonic barrage of destruction with some lyrical passage. On this case some vocal passages are done by Kenji Siratori, which make my “no Kenji Siratori” policies not good anymore since he teams up with one of my all time harsh noise fave. Some tracks were recorded live which make the aggressive level up! Fans of Austin Cooley’s works should jump on this and other, well, do what you want but you’ll miss a great slab of ugly noise. Come with typical Concrete Violin artwork!)

SADE 096 (RED 006) - GRKZGL - C’EST DE LA MARDE - CDR - (For the sixth installment in the Red Series of Brise-Cul Records, Grkzgl throw all the stuff that made his name famous (synth, laptop, etc.) to perform one hell of a heavy noise records. The idea behind this was born around a couple of beers asking Alex to record the most extreme nosie release he can do for the harsh Canadian noise series. Some days after Alex called me and said that he just did an album that is so harsh that it is ridiculous! A couple of minutes after je left my place when he gave me the master he called me to say that he had to edit a couple of seconds to make it better so he had a new master… Do you still follow? So this is such a crazy release, so meticulously recorded and mastered that it ends up in a category of quality noise recording very few artists end up being… Seriously, I gave Grkzgl a mission and he acomplished it better than expected… Came in a killer minimalist artwork made by a japanese friend of him! Another great canadian harsh noise release on Brise-Cul’s Red Series)

SADE 060 – MIDWIFERY – Stoned At False Dawn –CDR (It’s quite a bad thing that Josh “Autodestrukt” Bastien (also member of bands Gold Swords, Akisakila and Selfish Implosions) still have no proper release for his Midwifery project. But our fine taste at Brise-Cul always works strong on correcting the past errors and we are very proud to present you this amazing discharge of southwest Montreal-style analog works. This release contains a collection of amazing industrial bleak sounds, perfect soundtrack for your grey life. Most montréalers know the very meticulous way Autodestruct works as a graphic artist, I think Midwifery use the same kind of ethic but on the musical field. I think the only problem with this release is that it’s not long enough… Of course this release got an Autodestrukt artwork. So here we have corrected an error from the past, now get a good shelter since Midwifery is unleashed free in the world… But we warned you, Midwifery kills)

SADE 095 (Red 005) – KVIK – Close –CDR (For the fifth release in the Red Series (Canadian Noise Series), here is the second release for Brise-Cul from Montréal’s KVIK. Last year’s KVIK debut release …Aux Fraises was a very good collection of long tracks with feedback manipulations and effects. KVIK did a bunch of very small run releases since, marking a progression here and there. Our second effort from this project marks a certain shift soundwise while keeping the same spirit. This release shows more the use of synthesisers and metal that marks a solid upgrade in KVIK’s sound. This release contains 2 long hypnotic progressing slab of loud cold noise. I think this shows that KVIK is not a promising project anymore but a fucking solid act, not only now he performs amazing sets but records killer stuff!!!)

SADE 083 - ROBE. –Boneraiser– CDR (Sometime people want to give you the best they can delivers. Indiana’s Robe. are one of these new bands that works very hard and delivers pretty intense shit despite their young age. This release is a massive 75 minutes of intense guitar-based drones with an insane atmosphere. Fans of stuff like Thisquietarmy, Emeralds, Aidan Baker’s works and stuff like that will be very pleased with this… Very cool!

SADE 086 - SEASONS OF TORMENT –Lost Tape 1999– CDR (Seasons of Torment was my metalcore band from 1998 to 2000. Recently when I was on vacation for the holidays I found this tape with a big “TECHNOTRONIC” tape that was a rehearsal from 1999 where the band performs 5 tracks. I added one track from a weird live set and here we go. SOT sounds like typical metalcore from that era, sounded like stuff like Earth Crisis, Merauder, Zao, Overcast, etc. with typical “believe in your fucking self not on the others” lyrics as well as more dumb lyrics… If you want to know how cool i was when I was in college, here’s your chance… This one is limited to 24 copies and most copies are already gone, contact me if you want a copy to know if it’s availlable, if many wants copies I’ll do some more…

SADE 079 - BODY COLLECTOR - THE MOST UNHOLY DEATH - CDR (Here’s another slab of pure nihilism from Michigan. Body Collector is Khristopher Reinshagen of the aggressive combe Villa Valley and also running the stunning Nurse Etiquette label. Body Collector is a more introspective work channelling his angst and aggressivity through the medium of noise. The result of this is a very loud and harsh manipulation of synth and electronics driving you to headache… I think the best moment of this 3 tracks album is when it’s over, you know it’s like when you read a Dostoïevsky book of 600 pages, you’re so happy of the experience in the end… And another great fact about this release if that it comes with a Marilyn Monroe picture on the cover… Yeah…)

SADE 083 -WAPSTAN - THE GALLERY - CDR (Since it’s inception in 2002, Wapstan delivers a constant drone studies of aural frozen sounds dedicated to the spirit of the north. Vast, cold, minimal. Never the sound try to evolves, only step into other paradigmatic phases. Let’s call this arrière-garde electronics. If you don’t like it, stay in your south, Wapstan takes no advices from people of the south… This new release focused more the austere sound of Wapstan in the experience of cold isolation. I don’t know if you ever been in a cave by the winter frost but I did many time (that cave is featured in the movie Battlefield Earth, seriously) and I try to represent the feeling of lack of power you have toward the situation you are in through sound sculpture. This is a feeling that makes you stronger when you come back to society and face people. Sounds wise this release focus more on a new level of stoic aggression that could have been heard on previous releases Saturnales and Wolfuck but in a more drastic and less polished but more cold way… Heavy synth, loud loops, aggressive tendencies… Another lesson of frost by Wapstan…)
